The space battle above Endor

The Battle of Endor was a conflict that occured at the end of the Galactic Civil War. It was initiated when the Rebel Alliance learned of the Second Death Star's construction over Endor. The Rebel Fleet sent a small detatchment down to the surface of Endor (consisting of Han Solo, Leia, Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, C-3PO and R2-D2, along with several other Rebel soldiers) to destroy the shield generator there, therefore allowing the Rebel Fleet to directly assault the Death Star.

After meeting up with the local Ewoks on Endor following a dramatic speeder chase, the Rebel forces eventually wiped out the Imperial battalion based there. The Death Star was revealed to be operational and so Admiral Ackbar took Lando's advice and flew the Rebel Fleet directly into the approaching onslaught of Star Destroyers, engaging them at point-blank range and avoiding the Death Star's main weapon.

In the meantime, Luke Skywalker had been taken aboard the Second Death Star to confront Palpatine. After a duel with his father, Darth Vader, Luke decided to not give in to his hate and threw down his lightsaber. He was attacked by Palpatine with Force Lightning, and pleaded with his father for help. Vader eventually decided to forsake the dark side and kill Palpatine, saving his son but severely injuring himself.

Meanwhile, Han and the other Rebels on the surface of Endor were fighting off the surviving Empire forces with help from the Ewoks. After destroying several AT-STs and capturing the majority of the Stormtroopers, the Rebels at last destroyed the shield generator.

Ackbar then ordered a direct assault on the Death Star after it had destroyed the Redemption and Liberty, and to buy the fighters time Ackbar concentrated all the fleet's firepower on the Executor, and its bridge was destroyed when a brave pilot crashed his A-Wing into the bridge. The Executor then crashed into the Death Star, causing critical damage. Lando and Wedge flew inside the Death Star and destroyed its core. Wedge took down the main generator and started a chain reaction, thus destroying the station. Both pilots and Luke managed to make it off the station before it exploded, and joined the celebrations that unfolded down on the surface of Endor.
